Hello to all, sorry but my German is too poor to write in a forum ! I have seen and read (through google translation) a lot about the Asus M6800N, and I have found a German dealer that will ship it to me in Italy and the price is very good. The dealer is www.bytepro.de . Has anyone bought anything from them in the past and are they reputable and trustable and good ? Another thing is: on asus site they say that the weight of the M6800N is 2.6 kilos. Does that include the batteries or is it without batteries? in this case, could you please tell me the total weight including batteries ? lastly, I plan to use mostly Linux with the M6800N, and compilers (gcc, javac). could anyone tell me the performance of these under linux, if it has been tested and how the rest of the hardware works under linux many thanks! |

I can't really tell you anything about that particular dealer but can point you to www.geizhals.at there you might find reviews about that dealer. I'll try and put mine on a scale and weigh it... The one scale that would work only goes up to two Kilograms and the other one is too rough... Sorry for that. I can't say a thing about Linux cause I am quite happy with the Win/Notebook Duo. I might try using Linux in the future on this Book. But not for long... editiert von: mowses, 29.01.2004, 20:35 Uhr M6800N, 1.5GHz, 512MB, DVD/CD-RW COMBO, WLAN Intel 2200BG Hoffentlich mein letztes ASUS |

The weight of 2.6 Kg is without the CD-Drive. This Drive is attached into a so called 'Media Bay' and can be replaced with a second battery, a harddisk, a DVD-Writer, or a Dummy. With this dummy the total weight (incl. battery) is 2.6 Kg. With the CD-Drive it is roughly 2.9 kg. I dont run linux, but i can say that the linux support for the 6800N is not perfectly good (as it is for all new notebooks). Nevertheless, most things run under linux, the powermanagement is a little bit tricky though. e^(i*pi)=-1 |

buon giorno zymbalist as already quoted go to www.geizhals.at/deutschland/a76431.html There you can find many shops that ship in the EU and reviews ("Bewertungen") of them. In Germany "Note: 1,xx" means really good. The german system goes from 5 (insufficiente, insufficient) to 1 (molto buono, really good) not like in Italy from 5 (insufficiente, insufficient) to 10 (eccelente, excellent). You can found italian Asus retailers on notebook.asus.it/commerciale/dove_comprare/index.html My (german) site over the research for a Centrino Notebook is christian.rottensteiner.info/hardware/2004-01_notebook-pentium-m-recherche.shtml Saluti dal Südtirol Asus M6811Ne 1.5 GHz, 1024 MB, 250 GB, R9700 (Sep. 2004) - - - Asus M6800N 1.5GHz, 512 MB, 60 GB, R9600 (Feb. 2004) - - - WLAN-Router Asus WL-500G, ext. many thanks christian for your comments. The 6800 model is not available in Italy, similar models with 40 GB harddrive cost 1800 euroes, so the M6800 from Germany is cheaper and better. I visited your site some time ago, did you make up your mind on which laptop to get and did you get the Asus 6800 at the end ? How do you and other visitors to your site rate the 6800 ? Many thanks! |

prego zymbalist I'm still searching for the best offer - and I have not more knowledge than already listed on my page and the links. I hope to have the possibilty to rate the look and feel of a M6800 model. A Asus retailer in Bozen/Bolzano (South Tyrol) make me an offert: ASUS M6822NBH Pentium-M(Centrino) 1.5ghz, TFT 15', 512MB, 40GB, COMB for 1.526,00 Euro + IVA. The shop says he receive a model in the next days/week and inform me, when is available to look. I plan do not buy the M6800 before I haven't seen it by myself.
